Well, That's Just Embarrassing...

As Carrie Bradshaw once said, "I use my oven for storage."

I do not, but I easily could.

I do not cook. Why would I? I live in New York City, land of Seamless Web and 24 hour diners galore. Who the heck has time or inclination to cook for 1 after a long day at work?

It's bad enough that I know my mother (who happens to be an excellent cook) is disappointed that I hardly ever even boil water, but now Con Edison is in on the secret and I'm more than a little embarrassed.

A couple of weeks ago I received a letter from them stating that I hadn't used my gas in over a month and they were concerned - they wanted to send out someone to inspect my meter reading. That's just one more thing I didn't want to deal with (along with my still-leaking ceiling and non-working kitchen light) so I called my ever-helpful landlord.

Me: "I got a letter from Con Ed - apparently they haven't been getting a gas reading from my apartment so they want to send someone over to look at the meter."

Ever-Helpful Landlord: "Do you use your stove?"

Me: "...No..."

Ever-Helpful Landlord: "Have you used your stove in the past month?"

Me: (thinks) "...No..."

Ever-Helpful Landlord: "That's why."

I then had to spend almost an hour on hold with Con Ed to tell them that I don't cook and that is why there is no gas charge on my bill.

Apparently it's not an uncommon thing in New York because the lady I spoke to told me she would override it in the system.

My mom got a good laugh out of this.

That's hilarious. Even *I* use my stove more than that, and I hardly ever cook (I hate cooking).

My gas bill is always $8.00, and that's just the connection fee basically. hehe.

I don't live in NYC though, so what excuse do I have?!!?

This is too funny! I wish I could say the same thing...I hate everyday cooking though cooking for special occasions doesn't bug me too much.

I love to cook, but if I lived in New York, I wouldn't either. There's so much good food!
