Pretend you are 12 years old and the title of this blog entry is on a calculator.  Now have yourself a pre-teen chuckle.

As a New Yorker I very, very rarely am caught off guard by what I see on the streets of the city.  Homeless person laying face down in the middle of the sidewalk?  Shrug.  Man peeing on the side of a building in broad daylight?  Whatever.  But the other day I was in front of my office building and I admit my jaw dropped.

There was a bunch of commotion and hollering from the men in the construction site across the street.  I was very confused until I turned around and saw three topless women walking towards me.  And by topless I mean top. less.  Boobies out in the air for all to see.  Just strolling down the street in jeans and nada.  One of them had a camera around her neck.

Come to find out that women are legally allowed to go topless in Manhattan.  Color me shocked.  All this time I've been walking around with a shirt on, and for what???  I could have been putting it out there for all to see.  All that time wasted.

PS, you know I love to include pictures with my blogs.  I was tempted to find a picture of a woman flashing her girls, but I figured I should keep this blog work-friendly.

NEW TOPIC!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and it is right around the corner.  Six weeks away?  That's barely enough time to put a good costume together!  Right now I'm torn between:

A Big Buck Hunter Girl:
And Jem:
So different yet both could be so amazing!  I'm not sure which would be the easier costume to put together.  I'm honestly shocked I haven't been Jem before.

There are some who may have given up on dressing up for Halloween by their late twenties, but why?  I say.  Why?  I will continue dressing up for Halloween until...ever.

So I need YOUR help!  What should yours truly be for Halloween this year??  And what are YOU going to be??

Just remember, to quote Mean Girls, "Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."

"I'm a mouse.  Duh."

Topless? Do you think it was some kind of publicity stunt? I might try that in London to increase sales of my book... NOT.

Halloween costumes are fun, but in the UK people only wear scary costumes - zombies, witches, mummies, etc - even the kids. I feel sorry for the old folk!

I just can't imagine why that would be legally allowed - is it written into the constitution? I'm hey-ok with topless on the beaches, but downtown?

First of all, you should totally go with Jem. And also, any woman with a chest worth displaying should be allowed to do that as far as I'm concerned. The rise in car accidents would be a small price to pay.

Men go topless all the time...was some woman trying for equality by getting that law on the books? Keep it to the beach, the topless pools in Vegas, and the topless deck of the cruise ships ;)

I one of those bah humbug people on Halloween. I'd rather celebrate Samhain (the Celtic New Year). But I think Gem is cute and could be fun.

I psychotically love Halloween. I would run a haunted house if I could. I have a closet of costumes, and this year I am recycling an old mermaid costume. You need to be Jem, because she is truly outrageous. Truly, truly, truly outrageous.

Wow... Well, I always say to each his/her own, so if they wanna run around with it all hanging out, whatever. I personally don't have the cojones to do that, legal or not!

Also? Hello! You've never dressed up as Jem before, so go for it!

DAMN you rock, posting a picture of Jem like that!! And that is such a weird thing to be legal, in this day and age particularly. hehe

Definitely Jem!

We don't make enough of Halloween in England, which makes me sad.

That's just odd. It'd be a bit nippy to do that here in London.

WHOA toplessness in public is just waaaay too much...and I have actually never seen that in NYC before. Color ME shocked as well.
And my immediate suggestion is that you should be a cat. I don't know where I got that idea from dot dot dot

BTW...I nominated you for an award. Stop by my blog for the details :)

I always wear cobweb stockings...

I agree with the masses...go with Jem. I forgot Jem even existed. I'm a little ashamed of myself.

And the topless thing--I don't get it. Why? Why? Why?

O.O Okkayyy....

BE JEM! I'm dressing up as a witch (ha), steampunk or Cowgirl this Halloween. While my younger cousins (who are 7-years-old) are too embarrassed to go out trick-or-treating, I'll be getting free candy! Wooo!

Yes, women have been allowed to walk around topless in New York for quite a while now. Now I bet they were not running. They are trying to prove a point...what is it though? that they can cause a 16 car pile up in midtown? Living in NYC I saw it all . one day there was a guy dancing swan lake, another singing fifties songs and yet another showing off his shamalama ding dong all in the same subway car. my friend and I simply yawned. I say go for your fave childhood tv show Jem. she's cool!

Blessings, Joanne

I remember when that law passed! I keep waiting for someone else to make it legal, too. Not sure that's happened yet. Certainly not in Colorado, haha.

I'm going to be Wonder Woman (not original, but I don't care...she's awesome!)

I'd go with Jem!
